Accountablity, Funding, Policy and Strategy

We are accountable to and report to the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS), formerly the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (BERR).

Funding and Budget

The NWDA invests money in the Northwest from two sources:

  • The Government, via The Single Budget
  • The European Union, via the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)

The Single Budget pools money from six contributing Government Departments:

NWDA also manages the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) in the Northwest, which runs from 2007 to 2013. RDPE is jointly funded by the Government and the European Union.

  • The NWDA had a budget of £385 million in 2008/09.
  • The budget for 2009/10 is £397 million.
  • The indicative budget for 2010/11 is £305 million.

These figures take into account all the changes agreed as part of the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review 2007.

Our Corporate Plan 2008/11 provides full details of how we have allocated our budget to deliver the objectives set out in our Regional Development Strategy. Corporate Plans cover a three-year period which correspond to Comprehensive Spending Reviews.
