Liverpool Vision
The regeneration element of Liverpool Vision’s role is to
improve the attractiveness of Liverpool as a visitor destination.
Projects include: a new commercial quarter at St Paul’s Square; the
Lime Street Gateway; Liverpool One; and the Mersey Waterfront.
Key Liverpool Vision Projects
- The £1 billion Liverpool One scheme – the largest retail-led
regeneration project in Europe – opened in May 2008, offering
140,000 sq m of retail space as well as hotels, apartments and a
multi-screen cinema. In the area surrounding St Paul’s Square, more
than 92,000 of grade A office space has been successfully
delivered.
- Liverpool Vision is working with the Homes & Communities
Agency, Network Rail, Liverpool City Council and Merseytravel to
transform the Lime Street Gateway, which comprises Lime Street
Station, St George’s Hall, the Walker Art Gallery, the World Museum
Liverpool and the surrounding area. The work includes removing
Concourse House retail units and tower block, which restrict access
and views to the main station. A new public space will be created
at the front of the station.
- On the Liverpool Waterfront, the Cruise Liner Facility opened
in September 2007 and construction of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal is
nearing completion. The new £150 million Arena and Convention
Centre Liverpool launched the European Capital of Culture
celebrations in January 2008. At Mann Island, work is well underway
on the Museum of Liverpool.
- Liverpool Waterfront is one of the NWDA’s signature projects
and the Mann Island redevelopment is one of the schemes in
recession that the NWDA have invested in.
- Regarding raising Liverpool’s profile, Liverpool Vision is
leading the city’s presence at the Shanghai Expo 2010, Vision in
partnership with Liverpool City Council, The Liverpool Shanghai
Partnership and the NWDA.
