Urban Regeneration
Most of the Northwest’s urban regeneration work is carried out
by the region’s Urban Regeneration Companies. The NWDA supports
four Urban Regeneration Companies: New East Manchester, Central
Salford, ReBlackpool, and West Lakes Renaissance.
Urban Regeneration Companies are private companies that seek to
achieve a radical physical transformation of their areas through
masterplans and co-ordinating financial assistance to developers,
from both the public and private sector.
The NWDA also supports Economic Development Company Liverpool
Vision and regeneration delivery company Preston Vision – which was
originally an informal public/private sector partnership to help
Preston City Council regenerate the city centre.
The six regeneration organisations work closely with the
Northwest’s Sub-Regions and City Regions. The NWDA also invests in
employment sites and
housing sites that are
not the remit of these six organsations.
Urban regeneration is affected by the region’s sustainable buildings policy
and approach to design
quality.
