Golf Fans On Course With New Guide to The Finest Stretch of
Championship Golf in the World
THE pleasures and challenges of golf in England's Northwest are
celebrated in a new guide published today. (9th July)
The glossy, 56-page England's Golf Coast brochure is being launched
to coincide with the return of golf's oldest championship event -
The Open - to the Northwest next week.
Around 200,000 golf fans from all over the world, together with a
global broadcast audience of tens of millions, will turn their
attention towards Royal Birkdale when the world's greatest golfers
challenge each other to secure the coveted Claret Jug prize.
The new England's Golf Coast guide, which details in words and
pictures the finest stretch of championship golf in the world, will
be available in the main exhibition area and elsewhere at
Birkdale.
It features the three 'Royals' - Birkdale, Liverpool and Lytham St
Annes - plus 16 other naturally challenging courses.
It also contains details of how to book golfing breaks, building on
the existing £10 million-a-year impact that golf tourism has on the
local economy.
Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria courses are all
featured in the booklet, as well as on the accompanying website -
www.englandsgolfcoast.com
The campaign is managed by The Mersey Partnership (TMP) on behalf
of partners led by the Northwest Regional Development Agency
(NWDA).
Charlie Grimley, England's Golf Coast development manager at TMP,
said: "The Northwest has the best stretch of natural championship
golf in the world, and around 200,000 people will be visiting it
this summer for the British Open at Royal Birkdale.
"This publication is a superb guide to all that is good in the
region, offering information, facts, figures and details of how
golfing enthusiasts can return to the Northwest for a golfing
break. This, together with our website, is an excellent way of
reaching a huge international audience."
Peter Mearns, Executive Director of Marketing at the NWDA, added:
"The Open provides us with a fantastic opportunity to put England's
Northwest in the spotlight and this new visitor guide highlights
some of the best of what the region has to offer. It will encourage
visitors to make the most of their time here with us and will
hopefully inspire them to explore the wider region.
"The 2006 Open proved to be a huge success for Wirral and for the
Northwest and this guide will help us secure a similar legacy in
2008."
